I’m very, very puzzled ! ! !

During the renegotiation of terms with the other EU leaders David Cameron was very vociferous in the way he stated that if he could not get satisfactory terms for the UK he would personally lead the ‘OUT’ campaign.
That, clearly, means that he would be prepared to take the UK out of the EU – does it not?
It is entirely reasonable to assume that the Prime Minister would be aware of the ramifications of such a move. The advantages, and indeed the disadvantages, would be clear to him, and he was saying that he would be quite happy to leave.
That being the case, why are we now being assailed with warnings of the many dangers and disasters that would befall the UK if we left the EU.
If those dangers were real they would have been there regardless of any re-negotiation benefits.

Please can anyone explain this to me?
